GIMP Download / Canon software transfer via flashdrive?

I just got a netbook, and I do a ton of photo editing with 2 canons I use.
Netbooks have no cd drive and you can’t get their software online, so can I put the canon software on flashdrive from my other pc then transfer/download it to my netbook (I do have the original zoombrowser software cd), or should I try GIMP?

GIMP is free, I guess??? But I have never used it. A good friend said that I would love using it since I love photo editing and do a lot of it…

The GIMP is very good software. I’ve used it for years, although not as my primary image editor, mostly because it lacks support for IPTC/EXIF metadata. Not only that, it will remove metadata from any file you open with the GIMP. That’s a showstopper in my world, but if you don’t use the metadata, as many do not, you’ll probably be happy with the GIMP. You are correct that it is free, open-source software.
